HomePod to receive AirPlay2 update

The Apple HomePod will finally receive a firmware update this week to enable AirPlay2 support. Available on the HomePod and a variety of speakers from other brands, Apple's AirPlay2 will bring multi-room streaming support to a range of Apple products.

After the update, the HomePod will be able to receive streaming music in a number of new ways.

If you have two HomePods in the same room, you'll be able to use one as a Left speaker and one as a Right speaker, for a true stereo experience.

If you have a HomePod in the Lounge and another in the Bedroom, you'll be able to play the same music in both rooms at the same time, or different music on each one.

If you have other speakers, such as a Sonos or Bose system updated with AirPlay 2, you'll have a range of new options to create sound stages with the new AirPlay2 controller.
